Following the universal acclaim for Simple Minds’ recent landmark 5 X 5 shows – where they played 5 songs from each of their first 5 albums – and the accompanying X5 box set, the band will this summer take to the road to play festivals and, as a special treat to those who missed out on these shows, play a set comprising of songs from the 5 X 5 period plus some of their classic anthems.

The sets will include songs from Life In A Day, Real To Real Cacophony, Empires and Dance, Sons and Fascination/Sister Feelings Call and New Gold Dream (81, 82, 83, 84), which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year – all of which were released in a prolific period from 1979 to 1982. These five albums have had a massive cultural impact from the time of their release during the birth of the new wave electro scene in the late 1970s, through the dance revolution of the ‘80s and ‘90s, to the music of the Manic Street Preachers and the recent sound of The Horrors’ Skying album, making them five of the most vital albums of the post-punk period and the last 35 years.

The band is incredibly excited about the opportunity to be able to share this experience with more people.

Jim Kerr said “One of the great things about playing these festivals is that it lets us get in front of younger generations and we have to get up there and prove that our music’s timeless, that it’s got something for all ages and that the power and hopefully the authenticity of the music will strike a chord with people who haven’t witnessed Simple Minds before or don’t know much about us.”

Mick Hucknall, James Blunt, Angie Stone and DIV4S on stage in Rotterdam

The artists for Night of the Proms in The Netherlands are confirmed. We are proud to announce Mick Hucknall – the voice of Simply Red, James Blunt, Angie Stone and DIV4S for the concerts on 18 and 19 November in Ahoy Rotterdam.  Miss Montreal completes the line up for Night of the Proms in Rotterdam. The band of singer-songwriter Sanne Hans played the last three years in various concert halls in the Netherlands. Miss Montreal was also on the bill of most major festivals and now she’s been announced to play at Night of the Proms 2011.

Mick Hucknall, Seal and Angie Stone confirmed for Antwerp

Mick Hucknall – the voice of Simply Red – and American soul singer Angie Stone are confirmed for Night of the Proms in Antwerp. Night of the Proms 2011 starts on Friday 28 October in the Antwerps Sportpaleis. Earlier, Seal and DIV4S were announced. Seal and the Italian soprano quartet DIV4S will also be performing on Night of the Proms in Antwerp. More stars will be announced after the summer break. All pop stars will be accompanied by the Il Novecento Symphony Orchestra and the Fine Fleur Choir, directed by Robert Groslot.

Seal, Allison Moyet, Stanfour and Nile Rodgers confirmed for Germany

Seal, the British soul singer and pop star, will be the headliner at the first AIDA Night of the Proms concert this season. At the tour kick-off in Hamburg on November 25th, 2011, he will perform with, among others, Alison Moyet, Standfour, Nile Rodgers & Chic, the Italian soprano quartet Div4s and John Miles. The tour, which is in its 17th year, will remain true to its “Classic Meets Pop” motto with its new sponsor and will be featuring popular hits from over 300 years of music history. The stars will be accompanied by the Il Novecento Symphony Orchestra and the Fine Fleur Choir, directed by Robert Groslot.
